The Salmon returns with the Great Exe Salmon Run on September 29th 2024.
It's a three pronged event:
-A 50 mile Ultra from Sea to Moor, from Exmouth to Tarr Steps
-A team relay in sections of 4 to 10 miles also following the same route and starting at the same time, with teams of up to 8 running a section together carrying and passing on the salmon baton (Samantha).
-A 5k run (donation only) open to all running levels through Exeter from Salmon Pool to Exwick.
Challenges for all empathising with the challenges faced by the Exe Atlantic river salmon as they run upstream to spawn!
This event managed by Wildrunning and Tidelines, with support from Westcountry Rivers Trust, who help to improve the health of the river and in particular to modify or remove the redundant weirs that impede species mobility and of course make it harder for the salmon!

Everyone is welcome to come along and support family members and wave the salmon on – and suitable salmon attire is welcome.
Salmon Run is a community celebration of this remarkable but endangered species, its journey and its ecological and cultural significance for our river. Weirs, the changing climate, loss of species diversity and pollution all have their impact on these iconic fish with a sharp decline since the 1980s on the Exe and worldwide.
