Summer Camp Session: Sailing 101 at Columbia Sailing Club – Lake Murray, SCAges: 7 – 12
Weekly Sessions: June 1 - July 24
Time: 9:30am - 4:30pm M-F
Is your child ready to experience the thrill of sailing for the very first time? The Sailing 101 class at Columbia Sailing Club is the perfect introduction to the world of sailing! This class is designed for kids who are new to sailing or have already completed one or two camp sessions and are eager to build their skills in a fun, supportive, and safe environment. Whether it’s their very first time on the water or they’re looking to refine their basic skills, this class offers a welcoming place for every camper to grow and explore.
At the heart of the Sailing 101 class is a focus on safety, fun, and the fundamentals of sailing. Campers will learn the basics of boat handling, steering, and the key sailing terms they’ll need to navigate a sailboat with confidence. Through a combination of on-water instruction, games, and activities, campers will get hands-on experience while developing new skills, making friends, and enjoying all the excitement of a summer on Lake Murray.

What to Expect:
Safe, Fun Introduction to Sailing: Safety is our top priority, and campers will begin by learning the essential safety procedures for being on and around the water. With our experienced instructors guiding the way, campers will gain confidence in their abilities and enjoy the thrill of being out on the water while practicing important safety skills.
Learn the Fundamentals of Sailing: The class focuses on building a solid foundation in sailing. Campers will learn the basics of how to steer a boat, control the sails, and understand wind direction. They’ll become familiar with different types of boats, from the small Opti to larger vessels, and practice basic maneuvers like tacking and jibing.
Hands-On Fun on the Water: The best way to learn sailing is by doing it! In the Sailing 101 class, kids will spend plenty of time on the water, practicing their new skills and gaining hands-on experience. Through fun, engaging activities and games, campers will develop their coordination and confidence on the water.
Make New Friends and Have Fun: Sailing is an incredible way to bond with others, and this class places a big emphasis on making new friends and working together as a team. Whether it’s helping a fellow camper adjust the sails or celebrating a successful tack, the camaraderie and friendships that develop on the water are a big part of the experience.
Adventure and Exploration: Sailing isn’t just about learning technical skills—it’s about exploring, discovering, and having fun! Campers will enjoy the beauty of Lake Murray, sailing around its picturesque shores, and discovering the joy of being outdoors.
