About this Event

Safety in Action – Event Summary

What it is:
Safety in Action is a free, educational safety event for children, coordinated by East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service in partnership with other emergency services and safety organisations. It’s designed to help young people recognise everyday hazards and learn how to keep themselves and others safe through interactive, real-life scenarios.

Who it’s for:
The programme is primarily aimed at Year 6 children (10–11 years old) — a key age as they prepare to move to secondary school and gain more independence. Events are open to children from primary, independent, special needs, and home-education (solely home-educated sessions available via Safety In Action | East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service).

What happens at the event:
Children rotate through a series of simulated safety scenarios where they:

  • Learn about fire safety and how to prevent fires.
  • Explore road and water safety best practices.
  • Learn life saving skills including CPR.
  • Consider safety around railways, the internet, electrical hazards, and other everyday dangers.
These activities are hands-on and fun, encouraging active participation so children can learn by doing. Children receive a participation certificate at the end of the session which will be emailed to their school.

Interactive and Multi-agency:
The sessions are run jointly with other emergency services and partner agencies, providing children with varied perspectives and expertise, and creating realistic simulated situations to discuss and solve safely. Teachers attend alongside the children to support learning and supervision.

Booking:
When booking please select the total amount of children who will be attending the event. Do not include their individual names. Booking details, Risk Assessment and Site Map will be sent closer to the time of the event.

Cost:
The event is completely free for participants.
