This event will focus on how to safeguard human rights and human rights defenders in the context of global demand for critical energy transition minerals. The discussants will explore current geopolitical contestation around securing mineral supply chains, industry positioning and trends, risks and opportunities related to emerging mining sector standards and safeguards, and how frontline communities and activists are mobilizing globally to hold the line on long-fought protections, participation, equity and transparency measures.
Panelists include Elisa Morgera (UN Special Rapporteur on Climate Change and Human Rights), Joan Carling (Executive Director, Indigenous Peoples’ Rights International), Mary Beth Gallagher (Director of Engagement, Domini Impact Investments LLC), and Alfred Brownell (Founding President, Global Climate Legal Defense).
