Safe Shelter: A History of Halifax Almshouses
About this Event
For centuries, almshouses have provided safe, secure homes for those in need and remain an important part of our architectural and social heritage. This illustrated talk will explore the history of almshouses across Halifax, from their earliest foundations to the present day, uncovering the stories of the people and communities they were built to serve.
George will also look beyond Halifax, featuring several notable examples from around the country, including the award-winning Apperley Blue Almshouses in Bermondsey, London, showing how almshouse living continues to thrive in modern Britain.
The talk will be followed by an opportunity for questions.
