Blowout is an installation that investigates the ritualistic destruction of speakers—a thriving online genre dedicated to the spectacle of audio hardware being overdriven to failure, billowing smoke, and bursting cones. This artistic research project aims to develop sonic and spatial methods for navigating our cultural fascination with technological death. By compiling these moments of destruction and, crucially, reversing them, S McEvoy complicates narratives of gleeful obsolescence. The question driving this research is: under what circumstances do repair and restoration become thinkable, or even possible?
S McEvoy investigates structures of power and belief through an interdisciplinary practice of sound, sculpture, and performance. By invoking the adversarial as a core methodology, they stage disquieting sensory encounters that function as a mode of critical inquiry. This practice often focuses on the friction between material reality and cultural mythology. Currently, their work examines "technological death" and the ritualized destruction of hardware. By isolating moments of systemic failure and intervening in the aesthetics of obsolescence, McEvoy seeks to disrupt the linear flow of consumption. Their work challenges the viewer to move beyond the spectacle of destruction toward a radical consideration of repair.

platform BUNKER is an intimate exhibition space for hybrid practices. The bunker’s distinctive architecture challenges the traditional exhibition space and enables new interdisciplinary exhibition formats. platform BUNKER is curated by Lukas Quist Lund, Rebekka Bohse Meyer and Sól Ey.
