Five women.
Five birth stories.
One rural landscape.
Rural Legends is an intimate evening of live storytelling centered on the experiences of women who have given birth in rural communities. The evening invites five women to take the stage and share a personal story about pregnancy, birth, motherhood, healthcare, place, or the moments surrounding the arrival of a child. These lived experiences are stories of anticipation and
uncertainty, joy and fear, care and connection, difficult choices, unexpected moments, and the people and places that shaped each woman's experience. Together, the five stories invite us to
listen more closely to what birth can teach us about health and well-being in rural communities.
Presented by Front Porch Health, a community storytelling initiative dedicated to preserving and sharing lived experiences of health and well-being, in partnership with Mountain Momma and the Virginia Department of Health- Roanoke City and Alleghany Health District.
This is a free event to the public! There will be sweets and nonalcoholic refreshments available for free.
We will be hosting a diaper collection to support Mountain Momma Maternity Support. This nonprofit provides free baby essentials to families in the Alleghany Highlands and surrounding areas. They have provided over 6,000 diapers and almost 7,000 ounces of formula to local families in need in 2026.
