Set and filmed in Japan, the film follows Mikuko, a Japanese woman who has spent much of her life living according to other people's expectations.
When Vincent, an unconventional foreign traveller with a mysterious past, unexpectedly becomes her roommate, their unlikely friendship challenges her ideas about freedom, family and what it truly means to live life on her own terms.

このたび、日英バイリンガル・ドラメディ映画『Rules of Living』の英国劇場プレミア上映を、ロンドンのGenesis Cinemaにて1夜限りで開催いたします。
上映後には、監督のグレッグ・デールとプロデューサーのジェフリー・ロウによるライブQ&Aも予定しています。
物語の舞台は日本。主人公・美久子（南果歩）は、長年にわたり周囲の期待に応えながら生きてきた一人の女性。そんな彼女のもとへ、ある日突然、謎めいた外国人旅行者ヴィンセントがルームメイトとして現れます。まったく異なる世界で生きてきた二人の奇妙な共同生活は、やがて友情へと変わり、美久子は「自由とは何か」「家族とは何か」、そして本当に自分らしい人生とは何かを見つめ直していきます。
