Filmscope CIC presents a special screening of Ish with Kiln Theatre and Step Up Hub, as part of Rip It Up, a BFI FAN season supported by the National Lottery.
Set and filmed within the South Asian and Middle Eastern community in Luton, Ish follows 12-year-old best friends Ish and Maram as they navigate childhood against a backdrop of political tension and personal loss.
After a police stop, the boys are forced to confront the world they are growing into, and what it means to hold onto each other while learning to let go.
Written and directed by Imran Perretta and co-written by Enda Walsh (Hunger), Ish is a powerful black-and-white coming-of-age story about friendship, identity, masculinity and the difficult passage from childhood into adulthood.
