Royal Geographic Society Map Room Tour: Anthropology Summer School.

Love Maps! Join this unique Royal Geographic Society tour delivered by Dr Katie Parker, the Cartographic Collections manager. During this 90-minute visit you will be able access the fine rooms (as available), and discover how the Society has evolved today in contrast to its historical past. We will then visit the historical map room and explore the indigenous cartography collections on display; including examples of indigenous erasure on maps, maps from India, Sikkim, Japan, Sarawak, the Niger region, the Pacific Islands and Inuit mapping. Katie will also discuss the diverse, global projects in which the RGS both supports and involves Indigenous communities.
This unique event is being run in collaboration with the Meaning and Making Indigenous Cartography workshops delivered by Yasmin Hales on the 16th and 23rd August 2026 as part of the Anthropology Summer School.
