Roving Contemporary Video Exhibition ft. Artist Edgar Reyes
About this Event
Come see Baltimore-based artist Edgar Reyes present his video Los Vemos Pronto (See You Soon) at the Hopkins Bloomberg Center as part of the citywide traveling video exhibition, , presented by Hamiltonian Artists and The Nicholson Project. In this work, Reyes explores how migration, ecology, and memory shape experiences of place, drawing on the rhythms of the D.C.-Maryland landscapes and the tension between land as refuge and land as border.
Afterward, hear from Reyes in an intimate conversation inside the Hopkins Bloomberg Center building. Refreshments will be served after the talk.
Reyes is one of many artists featured in I’ll meet you there, a collaborative public art project unfolding across Washington, D.C. ABOUT EDGAR REYES
Edgar Reyes (b. Guadalajara, Mexico) is a multimedia artist and professor. Reyes’s work invites viewers to think about the people, places, and connections they carry with them. His practice draws on the specifics of his own life, and reflections of shared experiences of resettlement and migration. Through his art making he explores his family’s Mexican and Indigenous roots.
Reyes's practice confronts the legacy of displacement in the Americas, seeking to bridge understanding and cultivate compassion. He celebrates the vibrancy of Mexican-American identity while critically engaging with national and cultural ideals. Examining the ongoing blending of Indigenous and European traditions within the Mexican diaspora, he draws connections among ancestral art forms and contemporary experiences, revealing a dialogue between conquest and resistance.
ABOUT I’LL MEET YOU THERE:
and , two arts organizations dedicated to fostering emerging and mid-career artists, announce a sweeping six-month city-wide exhibition, I’ll meet you there. Showcasing the work of artists from the D.C. region, Stephanie J. Williams, Jermaine “jET” Carter, Edgar Reyes, and A.J. McClenon, I’ll meet you there will present video works that consider what it means to inhabit a space of uneasy familiarity—recognizable, yet quietly destabilizing.
On view March 16 - August 15, 2026, the exhibition unfolds across Washington, D.C. through a combination of storefront video screenings, outdoor mural installations, and a traveling 20-foot video billboard truck that transforms the city itself into a moving gallery.
The exhibition title is drawn from a line in “A Great Wagon” by the 13th-century poet Rumi, translated by Coleman Barks: “Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I’llmeet you there.” The verse gestures toward a space of encounter—one that exists beyond binaries and certainty, rooted instead in openness and shared humanity. That spirit animates this project.
