About this Event
Join The Seattle Times for a screening of the film “Rosemead,” followed by a discussion featuring one of the film’s lead actors, the journalist whose column inspired the film, and a local expert on mental health in Asian American communities.
Rosemead follows a Chinese immigrant mother (Lucy Liu) as she grows increasingly worried about her teenage son (Lawrence Shou) and his diagnosis with schizophrenia. The film is based on a 2017 column written by Los Angeles Times columnist Frank Shyong.
Following the screening, The Seattle Times will moderate a discussion with Shou, Shyong, and licensed clinical social worker Dillon Nishimoto about mental health in the Asian American community and other themes in the film.
The film is rated R and contains serious themes and violence that some viewers might find disturbing. Staff of the Asian Counseling and Referral Service, a local Seattle nonprofit, will be available at the event to provide resources and connect with attendees.
