This comprehensive course will run through the required skills to build anchors for a varitey of scenarios including including:
- Top Rope
- Sport climbing Multipitch
- Trad and alpine climbing
Anchor building principles are common to all practices, though the complexity depends on the application.
This course will run you through the fundamentals of anchor building as well as more advanced techniques used in Traditional and Alpine climbing scenarios.
The course will be composed of demonstrations and practice workshops in small groups, participants will be able to focus on specific techniques depending on skill level and interest.
Here is a sample of what will be demonstrated during the course.
Anchors:
- Double quickdraw anchor
- Dual Point anchors : (Quad, Fig8, Overhand, Girth Hitch, Bunny ears, No carabiner bowline)
- 3+ point anchors: Fig8, Girth hitch, Compound
- Tree Anchor: (Bowline/Fig8 + alpine butterfly)
Knots and hitches :
Bowline, figure of 8, Overhand, Alpine Butterfly, Clove Hitch, Rethreads, Girth Hitch

There are no specific pre-requirements to enter this course, though we encourage you to practice in advance the knots described above.
The price of the course is $10 for club members or $20 for non members, plus basecamp entry fee. This course is run by volunteer instructors with proceeds going towards the club and future instructor development.
While this course is run by competent climbers and qualified instructors, it does not guarantee your safety further down the road. Skills need to be practiced regularly and the dangers of rope manipulation at height needs to be understood.
