ROOTWORK: Technical Workshop on Nature-based Solutions (Naga City as Case Study)

How can we work with natural systems—not against them—to shape more resilient Philippine cities?
ROOTWORK is a two-day collaborative technical workshop that brings together landscape architects, architects, environmental planners, civil engineers, allied professionals, and local government stakeholders to explore the practical application of Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) in urban planning and development.
For its inaugural edition, ROOTWORK takes on Naga City as its 2026 Case Study, providing participants with a real-world planning context for examining urban and environmental challenges and developing landscape-led responses.
Through technical presentations, landscape reading, systems mapping, decision-support tools, collaborative planning, and interdisciplinary design exercises, participants will move from understanding the place to identifying opportunities, developing conceptual NbS strategies, and presenting preliminary planning recommendations.
The workshop aims to strengthen professional capacity to integrate natural systems, green infrastructure, and landscape-based approaches into the planning of more resilient, livable, and sustainable communities.
