ROOTS + RITES TATTOO FESTIVAL
About this Event
Roots + Rites is a three-day cultural event exploring identity, heritage, and expression through tattooing, art, music, education and community.
Formally ran as Afro Derm London, Roots + Rites brings together some of the best emerging and established artists who recognise the importance of working confidently and thoughtfully with melanated skin, alongside an educational exhibition, an artist-led workshop, and a pop-up shop, Roots + Rites creates and holds space for true connection, development, and exchange.
At its core, the project seeks to celebrate cultural narrative, champion underrepresented artists, reconnect contemporary artists to wider histories, and help shape the future of creating.
Hosted at Sang Bleu in Dalston, this year our programme includes:
- 19 tattoo artists from across the UK and beyond
- Educational exhibition exploring pre-colonial body marking traditions across the globe
- Pop-Up Shop selling artist merchandise and POC-owned independent brands
- Zine-making workshop
- DJ’s playing underground diasporic sounds
- Food, drinks, and community gathering spaces
