Roots for Resilience - Weekly at Maloca Community Garden

Join us every Mondays and Wednesdays(5:30pm to 8:30pm) at Maloca Community Garden, a welcoming community garden where we get together to grow food, take care of the land, learn new skills through free workshops, and make new connections.

For the past three years, Black Environmental Initiative (BEI) has been creating opportunities for young people to connect with the land and with one another.

This year, we are offering the Roots for Resilience program(Urban Agriculture) and the Beyond Provision Grounds program( Urban Forestry) every week, respectively Mondays and Wednesdays.

Whether you're interested in gardening, environmental action through urban greening, meeting new people, improving your well-being, or simply spending time outdoors, there is a place for you here.

No experience is required.

This is a drop-in program, so there's no need to register, you’re welcome to join us even when the events are listed as sold out.

We offer hands-on workshops every other week. In the weeks in between, we come together for Earth work, including gardening, planting, and caring for the space.

All activities are free of charge, and food and refreshments are provided. If you have any allergies or dietary requirements, please contact us by email in advance so we can do our best to accommodate your needs.

The garden is located beyond the baseball diamond, closer to the forest.

Parking

• Free parking is usually available by driving onto the field via Hoover Road/ Hoover Lane, which is accessed from The Pond Road.
• If those spaces are full, paid parking is available on Passy Crescent, adjacent to the garden.

Public Transit

If you are taking the TTC, exit at York University Station and walk south toward Ian MacDonald Boulevard. Continue west along The Pond Road until you reach Passy Crescent. You will see a large field with a baseball diamond. Walk toward the back of the field, where the garden is nestled beside the forest.
