Stewardship and Connection at Rat Creek Ravine (Kinnaird Park)

Join Root for Trees, Trees for Life, and community members as we plant trees, shrubs and wildflowers in Kinnaird Park. Designed in collaboration with the community, this fun, welcoming and inclusive event will contribute to the biodiversity and health of our shared urban forest.

Event Highlights:

• Plant 500 native trees, shrubs and wildflowers with Root for Trees.
• Explore the beauty of Edmonton's River Valley with educational nature walks.
• Receive complimentary ice cream from Kind IceCream!
• Enjoy live music

Wear closed toed shoes if you would like to participate in the planting activity.
Bring clothing layers appropriate to the weather
Event Schedule

12:00 p.m. Welcome and Land Acknowledgement

12:15 to 3:00 p.m.

• Tree and shrub planting
• Engage with educational vendors
• Get complimentary ice cream from Kind
• Enjoy live music with local performers

1:00 p.m. Kim’s educational nature walk

2:00 p.m. Sarah’s educational nature walk

3:00 p.m. Event concludes

Weather

Root for Trees will plant rain or shine! In the event of severe weather, volunteer plantings may be shortened or cancelled for staff and public safety.

Severe weather conditions that would necessitate cancellation include:

• Thunderstorms or lightning
• Temperature equal to or above 34°C, including the Humidex
• Wind, including gusts, of over 45 km/h
• An air quality health index (AQHI) of 7 or above

The City of Edmonton retains the right to modify or cancel the planting in the case of inclement weather and public safety. Please check our webpage for up to date information.

If this event is cancelled due to poor weather, we plan to reschedule for July 4

Parking and Event Location

Please see the map below for parking information. There is no scheduled event at Commonwealth on June 27, therefore parking is permitted at the "no parking during stadium events" signs. Please be respectful of the neighbors and carpool, bike or transit if you are able.
