About this Event
The world is on fire — literally and figuratively. And on the morning after Beltane, at the midpoint between spring equinox and summer solstice, the forests around us hum with the fullest aliveness of the year. The light lasts long. Something in us wants to rise.
And yet we are living through one of the most disorienting, painful periods in recent memory. The ecological and political crises aren't easing. Many of us are tired, grieving, or struggling to find our footing.
This is exactly the moment the earth has something to teach us.
Like the trees that know when to release and when to hold, we can learn to metabolize the pain of our times while cultivating the inner resources needed for sustained engagement. Rooted & Rising holds both truths: the beauty of the living world and the weight of its unraveling. Through forest bathing, somatic practice, and Joanna Macy's Work That Reconnects, we move together through a spiral of gratitude, grief, expanded perspective, and renewed purpose — integrating the full spectrum of our emotions, grief, rage, joy, and love, through reciprocal relationship with the earth herself.
Not bypassing the pain. Not collapsing into it. But metabolizing it — together, in the company of trees — and finding our way toward grounded presence and rightful action.
What We’ll Move Through Together
- Forest Bathing & Deep Nature Connection: Extended guided immersion in the forest's healing presence, using mindfulness and somatic practices to attune to the nervous system's natural rhythms and receive the earth's profound teachings
- Mindful Movement: body-based somatic practices, gentle yoga and chi-gong to regulate the nervous system and return to presence
- Gratitude as radical act: finding what we love in a world worth fighting for
- Honoring grief: making space for what hurts without being swept away
- Seeing through new eyes: council practice and creative expression from a wider perspective
- Visioning and going forth: translating inner stirring into clear, grounded next steps
- Community: genuine connection with others doing this difficult, necessary work
You’ll Leave With
- Embodied tools for nervous system regulation you can use anywhere
- A renewed sense of belonging to the living world and to community
- Clarity about what you care about and how to act from that place
- Practices for holding grief and joy simultaneously, without burning out
- Connection with others who are awake to the times and choosing to show up anyway
Who This Is For
This workshop is for anyone who feels the weight of these times and is looking for a way to stay present, connected, and purposeful without shutting down. No prior experience with Joanna Macy’s work or meditation required — only a willingness to show up, slow down, and let the forest do some of the work.
Please bring layers, walking shoes, a journal, and something to sit on. Tea and simple snacks will be provided.
