Rooted & Rising - Black German Visual Stories

"Rooted & Rising – Black German Visual Stories" is an intimate art therapy workshop held in honor of Black History Month for people who identify as Black Germans. In the Black-owned studio space "Kunsttherapie Seelenspiegel" (owned by Black German artist and art therapist Charlene Davis), participants are invited to create their own visual story. This may be inspired by a formative moment, a memory, a feeling, a symbol, a person, a name, or an object, anything connected to personal experiences of being Black and German. The focus is not on artistic skill or performance, but on expression, self-reflection, and making personal narratives visible. The resulting artworks may be abstract, fragmentary, or clearly narrative, all forms are welcome. The workshop offers space for quiet reflection, creative work, and shared presence in community. All materials are provided, and no prior artistic experience is required. This is a deliberately POC-only space, created to hold, share and honor Black German stories from within our own perspectives.
