About this Event
Spiral Light Sound & Meditation Center presents:
ROOT TO RISE – Qigong Movement and Sound Bath Experience with Sandra Mighell and Jere Friedman
Root into the Earth and rise toward the Sun as we celebrate the Spring season by simultaneously experiencing the balance of movement, vibrations, grounding, and upliftment. Spring is the time of the wood element in Traditional Chinese Medicine and an excellent time to treat the liver organ system. Certified Qigong instructor Sandra Mighell and Gongmaster Jere Friedman will begin the ceremony by leading you in a Circle of Intention. Next, Sandra will softly guide you in a deeply grounding and nourishing Qigong practice (learn more about qigong below). Then, you’ll transition gently into a relaxing sound bath experience with Jere. We’ll close the ceremony with time for you to integrate and, if you choose, share about your experience.

WHAT IS QIGONG? Qigong is a 5,000-year-old practice from China that implements gentle movement, breath, and mindful focus. "Qi" or "Chi" means energy or life force, and “gong” means cultivation or practice, with purpose and intent. Recent studies have shown that Qigong enhances many different aspects of body health, longevity, and body balancing. Many people practice Qigong before martial arts, and they may also use it as a medical and/or spiritual practice as well.
About Sandra Mighell:Sandra is a Certified 1st Degree Black Belt instructor in the Nia TechniqueTM and Nia FreedanceTM, a Certified Qigong Instructor in Supreme Science and traditional Five Element Organ Cleansing (Medical) Qigong, and a Certified L1 and L2 Instructor in Dr. Paul Lam's Tai Chi for Arthritis.
Sandra has been a movement and self-care practitioner since 1999. Her classes have been described by her students as being "like a spa treatment for the body," "rejuvenating," and "grounding." She brings to her classes a sense of personal safety, real comfort and vibrant joy in the body.
Through the harmonizing body awareness practices of Qigong, Tai Chi, and Nia, we make possible the transformation of our cell tissue by infusing it with positive conversation, good energy and intention, and awareness of our own sense of authenticity. This journey into the body is one that is well worth taking! (Warning: spontaneous and contagious laughter is possible…)
Sandra has been sharing her movement practice for 25 years in yoga studios, recreation and community centers, YMCAs, spas, Pilates studios, government facilities, corporations, and in countless private and small group venues. She loves the great outdoors and spending time in Eau Claire, Wisconsin with her beloved, Daniel, and dear family and friends. Like piecing together jigsaw puzzles, she enjoys investigating the many curiosities of being human, healing in its many forms, and being an open channel, facilitating open spaces in mind, body and spirit, and opening doors for others as they seek their own truths.
For more information about Qigong, Tai Chi or Nia, feel free to visit Sandra’s website at www.openspacesmindfulmovement.com. The international website for the Nia Technique is www.nianow.com.
