About this Event
On Wednesday, May 20, Rockland County will be hosting an in-person public scoping meeting to share updates on the Rockland Riverway Trail’s progress and collect community feedback as it enters the 50% Design Phase.
What is Scoping?
The Scoping Period, which begins May 6 and ends June 1, is the first step in the environmental review process for the project. During the Scoping Period, Rockland County will collect verbal and written comments from the public that will contribute to the development of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). The EIS is a comprehensive document that evaluates a project’s potential environmental, social, and economic impacts to comply with State review.
On May 6, Rockland County published a Draft Scoping Document to start the scoping process. The document is available for review prior to the meeting at www.rockland-riverwaytrail.com.
The document includes information about:
- The project’s purpose and needs
- Project elements that Rockland County will consider during the project timeline
- Alternatives that will be studied in the EIS
Public input is an important part of the scoping process. All comments received verbally or in writing during the Scoping Period will be addressed in the final scoping document.
About the Scoping Meeting
During the meeting, the project team will give a presentation on project updates as it enters the 50% Design Phase, as well as an overview of the project’s scoping process.
Following the presentation, registered commenters will have an opportunity to share comments of no more than 3 minutes on what alternatives and what environmental impacts should be studied in the development of the project.
