Rockford Dev September Meetup - Ethics and Technology
About this Event
The Rockford Dev September Meetup is just around the corner! The month's event will take place on Wednesday, September 16th at 6:00 PM at Maker Lab in the Rockford Public Library.
This month, we're stepping away from code for a night to dig into something that touches everything we build: Ethics and Technology.
Join us for an open, moderated discussion tackling some of the thorniest questions in tech today:
- What's the real cost of trading personal data for "free" information — and what does that trade-off mean for society?
- Who should fund open source software, and does the current model actually work?
- If an AI generates content, is that a unique, copyrightable work — or something else entirely?
- Who owns the value AI creates, when its training data came from all of us?
- The ethical technology question that you've been mulling over and want to discuss with larger group.
No slides, no single speaker with all the answers, just a room full of developers wrestling with questions that don't have easy ones. Bring your opinions, bring your doubts, and bring a friend who likes to argue in good faith.
