If you could travel back in time to a Melbourne city street from 150 years ago, what might meet your eye that has eluded history’s gaze?
About this Event

Shutter City: Fragments of a forgotten Melbourne presents photographic views of city streets spanning the hurly-burly decades of the 1850s to 1870s, between the gold rushes and Marvellous Melbourne. These fascinating streetscapes are packed with hidden-in-plain-sight historical detail.

Join us to hear curator and author Robyn Annear’s lively and insightful commentary on a near-forgotten Melbourne and the photographers who captured it.

Robyn Annear is the author of ten books of history, and she appeared in the acclaimed 2022 documentary, The Lost City of Melbourne. In her podcast, Nothing on TV, Robyn presents stories from Trove historical newspapers.
