Whether playing one of his many original compositions or a classic by Jobim, the sound of Gabriel Santiago’s seven-string guitar expresses layers of convergence: of his deep Brazilian roots, the inventive play of jazz, and the sophistication of his compositional background—brought to life by yet another layer: the all-star cast of musicians and friends joining him in collaboration.
These friends include longtime heroes of Gabriel’s like pianist and composer Rique Pantoja, close collaborators from home including singer Dani Gurgel, and mentees like Diego da Silva. Gabriel occupies the center of this network, simultaneously student and master, absorbing and synthesizing these voices and histories into one interconnected narrative.
