An engaging 2-hour watercolour demonstration and workshop exploring the techniques of capturing the slow flow of rivers and seas breaking over rocks hosted by artist Leri Kinder. The demonstration:
At the start of the session there will be a demonstration to show how using two colours along with masking fluid can be effective in replicating slow flowing water. The first underpainting of a pale blue shade will then have masking fluid applied in very specific shapes (rather like amoeba!)
However, this part of the demonstration will be revisited later in the session when the masking fluid is dry. The second demo, using Indigo which is a semi-permanent pigment will enable the paint to be washed out to create a sea spray effect as the waves crash against boulders. This painting is where it might be preferable to have stretched paper to work on as members might decide to create their own imagined sea shore with rocks etc. Now that the masking fluid has set, an overpainted layer of brown is added and once the paint is completely dry the masking fluid can be removed indicating the reflected light on the very specific shapes remaining!
About the artist:
Leri Kinder is an artist specialising in stunning still life watercolour paintings and greetings cards.
Leri grew up in rural mid-Wales where she appreciated the landscape, often taking herself off to the hills and wooded areas to sketch or paint. She enjoyed capturing the stone farmhouses and buildings that dotted the rolling hills.
Leri Kinder went on to study art at college and taught in several primary schools and colleges in Powys, Staffordshire and Cheshire, where she now lives.
