About this Event
Join us for a hands-on family session exploring the fascinating wildlife of the River Gade. With guidance from our staff, you’ll step into a shallow section of the river and try river dipping, to discover the amazing creatures living beneath the surface.
We’ll identify what we catch and learn about the insects, invertebrates, and other wildlife that live in chalk streams. You’ll discover how these tiny creatures act as indicators of good water quality, and why healthy rivers are so important for wildlife.
As we explore, we’ll also be on the look out for the birds and insects that depend on the river, such as waterfowl, dragonflies, damselflies, and riverflies. You may even spot our resident kingfisher.
This session is a great opportunity to explore nature up close, and learn practical ways you can help protect rivers and wildlife. We’ll also share ideas for simple actions you can take for nature, from saving water at home to getting involved with local community groups.
What to bring:
- Wellies or waterproof boots
- A change of shoes
- Clothes you don’t mind getting a bit wet
Important information:
- For ages 6 and above
- 1 parent/guardian per 2 children is required.
- If the weather is poor, the session will move indoors at the Hub where we will continue learning about river wildlife and conservation.
Come and discover just how rich in life our local river can be when you take the time to explore it.
