This ride is part of our campaign work identifying the Missing Links in our cycle and pedestrian infrastructure. Instead of sticking to the quiet and traffic free roads of our social rides, we're tackling the problem areas head on, with a tour of some examples of Missing Links.
The examples we'll look at are; poor signage, one way streets with no exemption for bikes, narrow, slow and indirect crossings for pedestrians and cyclists, cyclists dismount or no cycling signs, paths which just end, busy roads with no provision for bikes and dangerous cycle lanes that put bikes in conflict with turning traffic. Due to the nature of the task, we'll be riding on some busy roads with no or poor infrastructure. The full route is here: https://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/6223848319/
Whether you want to ride the whole ride or just join us at the start, please assemble at the station forecourt for 5pm, with the ride setting off at 5:30. There's also the option to join for the first part of the ride up to the Councill Headquarters and return to the station via Newall Terrace at that point. We’ll stop at each of the identified points to make a small sacrifice to the Infrastructure Gods and set a marker for (we hope) progress over the coming years.
