RIAS Seminar: Using Architecture Policy to Generate Public Value

Join RIAS and Architecture and Design Scotland for a seminar exploring new research comparing the role of architecture within public policy across different European contexts. By considering Scotland alongside Bilbao and Vienna, the discussion will investigate how governance structures, funding mechanisms and policy instruments enable architecture to contribute to public value.
The research suggests that architecture's influence is determined not only by design ambition, but also by the institutional arrangements and financial frameworks that support it.
Presented by Aseel Almahfoodh Master’s degree in Comparative Public Policy at the Edinburgh University School of Social and Political Science, the event will share insights from comparative research and consider what these findings mean for Scotland. Aseel will be joined by Ian Gilzean from Architecture and Design Scotland, Stuart Hay from the RIAS and architectural practioners to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing architecture's role in shaping places and communities today, followed by questions from the audience.
