Join us for an engaging in-person drumming class in Asheville, open to participants of all skill levels. Please bring your djembe and dununs to participate fully in the session.
This workshop focuses on understanding how rhythms function as building blocks. Together, we’ll examine the connections between rhythms that allow for a natural progression in both learning and teaching. Participants will be introduced to rhythms that build upon their existing knowledge of foundational patterns, making the learning process intuitive and enjoyable.
The Passport Series provides drummers with an opportunity to develop their skills, learn new rhythms, and enjoy playing with a vibrant community of drummers. All sessions are open to every skill level, and participants are welcome to join at any point in the series. If you’ve experienced a class with Robin Bountourabi Leftwich, you already know that each session is energetic, informative, and filled with meaningful content.
During the class, we will cover:
• The history and cultural background of the rhythm
• Djembe and dunun parts
• Rudiments and techniques for improving sound and playing style
• Reading and writing djembe and dunun notation
• And much more
Registration:
The cost is $100 per class, or $50 for returning students who have previously taken the course. Payment can be made via PayPal to [email protected]. After submitting payment, please also send a confirmation email to Lois at [email protected] so we can plan accordingly for the group size.
