Rhythm in Motion - Brazilian Rhythm Masterclass (all instruments)

A musicalization workshop exploring rhythm through the body, the voice, and percussion.
Drawing from Brazilian musical traditions such as Samba and Forró, this workshop approaches rhythm as something to be felt, heard, sung, played, and shared — rather than simply counted.
Through a progressive series of exercises involving movement, stepping, clapping, vocalization and percussion, participants develop rhythmic awareness, coordination, listening, focus, and musical interaction.
The pandeiro is one of the instruments we use throughout the workshop, but this is not a percussion-specific class. The concepts are designed for musicians of all backgrounds and instruments — including strings, winds, piano, voice, and percussion — as well as complete beginners.
The idea is to experience how rhythm can move between the body, the voice and the instrument, and how Brazilian musicians develop a strong internal sense of pulse through movement, singing and collective music-making.
The workshop culminates in a spontaneous group composition, bringing together the rhythmic ideas explored throughout the session into a collective performance.
No previous musical experience is required. Experienced musicians are equally welcome.
Some instruments will be available to play during the workshop. Participants are also welcome to bring their own percussion instruments that can be played while standing and moving.
A selection of handcrafted pandeiros will be available for purchase after the workshop.
