About this Event
Research suggests that music creates a feeling of cohesion or social connectedness and remains a powerful way of uniting people. The benefits of listening to music are far-reaching, making people feel happier and more productive, lowering stress levels and improving mental health and strengthening mood, memory and verbal communication.
Join us for a free evening performance delivered by Rhapsody Chorus, an enthusiastic, friendly group of women who enjoy singing a cappella (unaccompanied) 4-part harmony.
The 4-part chorus is made up of a Lead – this often takes the melody of the song, Bass – the lowest harmony line and the driving force of the chorus, Tenor – the highest harmony line, sung above the melody and Baritone – a rich harmony line that moves above and below the melody. Bringing them together is the Musical Director who shapes and develops the sound, expression and performance.
Whilst the heart of Rhapsody is friendship and the enjoyment of singing, they also like to perform and compete, and have recently won the Ladies Barbershop Class at the North Northampton Music Festival. Last year they competed at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod and have just returned from the annual convention competition, in Bournemouth, meeting up with over 30 other choruses from around the UK.
7.00 - 7.30 - Welcome and refreshments
7.30 - 8.30 - Rhapsody will perform with an interval for refreshments and a chance to meet the chorus
8.30 - close
Did you know that singing lowers cortisol and relieves stress and tension? Studies have shown that when people sing, endorphins and oxytocin are released by the brain which in turn lowers stress and anxiety levels.
If you’d like to give 4-part harmony a try why not pop along to a rehearsal. The chorus meets meet every Tuesday evening (7.15-9.45) at Dogsthorpe Methodist Church. There is a ' Try Out Tuesday' session organised for 12 November and, starting on Tuesday 7 January 2025 a five-week 'Learn to Sing' course starts, where newcomers have the opportunity to learn a complete song culminating in a friends and family performance with Rhapsody.
If you’d like to escape this hectic world for a few hours each week and enjoy some singing and friendship, Rhapsody Chorus is waiting for you.
For more information please visit the website: www.rhapsodychorus.org.uk or contact the chorus by email at [email protected] or telephone 07563 647963.
