Zanurzony w obszernej kolekcji książek paryskiej biblioteki 7L Karla Lagerfelda, Rafał Milach tworzy serię kolaży „Rewers”, w których bada kanoniczne „standardy piękna” oraz sposób, w jaki ciało, głównie kobiece, jest postrzegane i reprezentowane.
Łącząc kody wizualne zapożyczone ze sztuki, mediów i nauki, Milach krytyce poddaje powtarzający się w archiwach biblioteki Lagerfelda, a wytworzony na potrzeby przemysłu modowego, surowy rygor przedstawiania
ciała. Kreatywne podejście pozwala artyście ten „ideał” podważać, zniekształcać, uwalniać i dekonstruować. Jego plastyczne, ręczne interwencje w formie kolaży oraz radykalne kadrowanie odwracają gesty cenzury, często znacząco przekształcając bardzo znane dzieła sztuki i obrazy ze świata popkultury. Milach zdaje się podkreślać, że reprezentacja, nawet jeśli twórcza, może być opresyjna czy wywoływać niepokój.
Premierowo prace prezentowane były w bibliotece 7L w formie zina (3 x 4 m). Galeria Jednostka pokaże oryginalne, unikatowe kolaże wykonane przez Rafała Milacha w 2024 roku.
Projekt powstał na zlecenie biblioteki 7L we współpracy z Magnum Photos.

Artysta wizualny, fotograf, wykładowca. Jego projekty skupiają się na napięciu pomiędzy społeczeństwem a strukturami władzy. Autor książek o protestach i krytycznych publikacji o państwowej kontroli. Profesor w Szkole
Filmowej im. Krzysztofa Kieślowskiego w Katowicach. Zwycięzca Nagrody Author Book podczas Rencontres de la Photographie d’Arles we Francji. Finalista prestiżowej Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize
2018, laureat konkursu World Press Photo oraz Paszportu Polityki. Stypendysta Ministra Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego, Magnum Foundation i Europejskiej Fundacji Kultury. Współzałożyciel kolektywów Archiwum Protestów Publicznych oraz Sputnik Photos. Jedyny polski członek Magnum Photos. Stale publikuje w najważniejszych światowych magazynach. Prace artysty są szeroko pokazywane na wystawach w Polsce i na świecie, a znajdują się w kolekcjach m.in. Muzeum Sztuki Nowoczesnej w Warszawie, Centrum Sztuki Współczesnej Zamek Ujazdowski w Warszawie, Fundacji Sztuki Polskiej ING, Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts (Japonia), Brandts w Odense (Dania), NOMUS Nowe Muzeum Sztuki / Muzeum Narodowe w Gdańsku, Muzeum Warszawy.

Immersed in the extensive collection of books from Karl Lagerfeld's library 7L in Paris, Rafał Milach works on the 'Reverse' collages in which he investigates the ‘standards of beauty’ and the way the body, mainly that of women, is perceived and represented.
Combining visual codes borrowed from art, media and science, Milach is critical of the recurring in the archives of Lagerfeld's library, and produced for the fashion industry, strict rigor of body representation. A creative approach allows the artist to undermine, distort, release and deconstruct this 'ideal.' His plastic, manual interventions in the form of collages as well as radical framing reverse the censorship, often significantly transforming very well-known works of art and pop culture images. Milach seems to emphasize that representation, even if creative, can be oppressive or cause unease.
Works premiered at the library 7L in the form of a zine (3 x 4 m). JEDNOSTKA Gallery will present original, unique collages made by Rafał Milach in 2024.
The project was commissioned by the library 7L in collaboration with Magnum Photos.
Rafal Milach (born 1978)
Visual artist, photographer, and educator. His work focuses on the tension between society and power structures. Author of protest books and critical publications on state control. He is a professor at the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School of Silesian University in Katowice, Poland. Milach is a winner of the Author Book Award at Rencontres de la Photographie d’Arles, France and World Press Photo contest. A finalist of the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize, Polityka Passports Award. He has received scholarships from the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Magnum Foundation, and European Cultural Foundation. A co-founder of the Archive of Public Protests and Sputnik Photos collectives. He is the only Polish member of Magnum Photos. He constantly publishesin the most important magazines in the world. Milach’s works have been widely exhibited in Poland and worldwide, and can be found in the collections of MoMA Warsaw, Poland, Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle, Warsaw, Poland; ING Polish Art Foundation, Poland; Kiyosato, the Museum of Photographic Arts, Japan; Brandts, Odense, Denmark; NOMUS New Art Museum / National Museum, Gdańsk, Poland; Museum of Warsaw, Poland.
