REVERSE Saunter Stretch Series - Stretch #3 (Day 1)

Over three consecutive days, Tuesday through Thursday, we'll walk the iconic 32-mile Great Saunter path in REVERSE, i.e., counterclockwise, circumnavigating Manhattan Island up the East side and down the West side.

The walks start on Tuesday with Stretch #3 of the 'regular' Great Saunter stretches, about 11 miles, give or take, about 5 hours, at a moderate pace. The next walk in the series will be on Wednesday, October 8.

On Tuesday, we begin at the Staten Island Ferry Terminal and walk up the East side to East 125th Street. Join us for all or part of the walk; there will be drop-out points throughout the route.

Meet at 10:00 a.m. at the benches in front of the Staten Island Ferry Terminal, to leave promptly at 10:15 a.m. We will walk close to the East River as much as possible, enjoying some recently opened park stretches in lower Manhattan, including Pier 42 Park. And we'll make a short detour to check out the newly opened John V. Lindsay East River Park just south of the Williamsburg Bridge. There will be several detours due to the East Side Coastal Resiliency project.

Our lunch break will be in Andrew Haswell Greenpark on the East Midtown Greenway.

There will be several restrooms available along the way.

The walk ends at the Harlem-125th Street Metro-North train station (125 Street & Park Avenue), one block East of the 125 Street subway stop of the 4/5/6 trains.

Bring: water, sunscreen, hat, snacks & lunch.

This walk will count for 11 miles of your total. You do not have to participate in the Fall Challenge to join the walk—all members are welcome.
