Return to Kapwa: A Fundraising Soundbath for Water & Community
About this Event
RETURN TO KAPWA
A Fundraising Soundbath for Water & Community
Return to Kapwa is a community soundbath gathering rooted in reciprocity, collective care, and our interconnectedness with one another and the places we come from.
This gathering is held in support of a community-led water resilience project in Tayuksidi, Philippines, where my babaylan mentor is preparing an overhead water filtration and storage system in anticipation of potential water disruptions associated with El Niño.
She has already begun purchasing and gathering the materials needed for the project, including the system components and filtration materials. There are still essential supplies needed, including pipes, fittings, and other infrastructure, to complete the system.
The community has access to a deep well, which will serve as a water source for the system. The intention is to prepare ahead of time, creating greater access to water in the event that the city water supply is interrupted.
Rather than waiting for crisis to arrive, this project is an act of preparation, care, and community resilience.
A return to kapwa
In Filipino culture, kapwa speaks to our shared identity and interconnectedness. It reminds us that we are not separate from one another, and that our wellbeing is connected to the wellbeing of our communities.
Through this soundbath, we gather in to create a space for rest, listening, and connection while contributing to a tangible community-led project across the ocean.
You are invited to come as you are.
Lie down.
Breathe.
Listen.
Receive.
Give back.
All proceeds from this fundraiser will go toward the remaining materials and infrastructure needed for the water project in Tayuksidi.
No prior experience with soundbaths is needed. Simply bring yourself, something comfortable to lie on, and an open heart.

Land Acknowledgement
This gathering takes place on the unceded territories of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:lō and Səlílwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
We acknowledge the lands and waters that hold us here in so called North Vancouver, and honour the Indigenous peoples who have cared for these territories since time immemorial. We recognize that gathering, creating, and offering community care on these lands comes with a responsibility to practice reciprocity, respect, and relationship.
As we gather in connection with one another, we extend our gratitude to the land, waters, and peoples who make this gathering possible.
