About this Event
Research Mobilization: A Strategy for Solving Canada’s Innovation Paradox
We invite students, researchers, and industry professionals to join us in this critical conversation that aims to reshape the future of innovation in Canada.
Join us for an engaging discussion on Canada’s Innovation Paradox, where we explore the gap between high levels of research investment and output and lower-than-expected commercialization outcomes. This event will feature an opening address by Dr. Carlos Bazan, associate professor of technology entrepreneurship, who will provide insights into the underlying factors contributing to this paradox and suggest pathways for fostering a more robust innovation ecosystem.
Following Dr. Bazan’s presentation, a panel of distinguished researchers and industry leaders will explore the implications of this paradox for the university context.
The panel discussion's key focus will be intellectual property (IP) protection and its critical role in the commercialization process. The panel will explore how effective IP strategies can safeguard innovations, attract investment, and encourage collaboration between academia and industry. Attendees will gain insights into navigating the complexities of IP management, including patenting processes, licensing agreements and the importance of fostering an entrepreneurial mindset within research institutions.
The event will conclude with a Q&A session, allowing attendees to engage with the speakers and discuss strategies for bridging the gap between research and market application in the context of IP protection.
