Step onto the Blackfriars Playhouse stage for a Renaissance Supper inspired by the food, fellowship, and table traditions of Shakespeare’s world.Join the American Shakespeare Center on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 7:00 PM for a one-night dining experience on the Blackfriars Playhouse Stage in Staunton, VA. The supper will be catered by Aaron Gardner of Gardner’s Harvest, whose farm-to-table approach brings fresh, regional ingredients to a menu inspired by Renaissance foodways.
Hosted by Garry and Sally Walton, this evening invites guests to share in a supper that brings history to the table. As you dine, Garry and Sally will guide guests through the meal, sharing the history behind the dishes, how food would have been prepared, and how a meal like this would have been shared in Shakespeare’s time.
Each ticket includes:
🌟 Pre-meal mead tasting and light hors d’oeuvres
🌟 A three-course Renaissance-inspired supper on the Blackfriars Playhouse stage
🌟 Historical context throughout the meal
🌟 A matinee ticket to As You Like It, directed by José Zayas, for either Saturday, June 13 at 2:00 PM or Sunday, June 14 at 2:00 PM
Single ticket: $250
Guests will select their entrée when reserving.

All dishes are served with Mushroom & Roasted Leek Barley Pilaf.

Cold poached trout fillets in a mace-orange court bouillon, served with Romanesco florets and Noble Green Sauce.
🍗 The Golden Capon
Saffron-rubbed crispy skin-on chicken thighs, served with Mead-Roasted Carrots and Mead & Currant Agrodolce.
🍄🟫 The Earth’s Bounty
Blistered Summer Squash over Caramelized Onion Puree, served with Mead-Roasted Carrots and Herb-Verjuice Emulsion.
