Light your candle in the darkness of November…Remind yourself about up to 7 million people who lost their lives from the man-made famine on the fertile lands of Ukraine in 1932-33…
Read testimonies from journalists and witnesses around the Globe about the Holodomor—a tragedy orchestrated by Soviet leadership to suppress the resilient Ukrainian population that resisted a regime and ideals foreign to their culture. Holodomor stands as one of the darkest chapters in modern history.
Join us to commemorate the victims of Holodomor and explore materials from the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory and other sources we gathered for you. We will also demonstrate ingredients and the foods our grandparents and great-grandparents consumed to survive during this harrowing time.
As part of our exhibition, which will run until the end of November, we showcase the family stories of "People Who Shouldn't Exist"—descendants of those who survived the Holodomor and now live in the State of Washington. You will have the opportunity to meet some of them and ask them more about their family stories.
If you cannot join us on November 10th, you can stop by and take a look on Mondays from 6:30 to 8:00 pm, on Fridays from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, and on Saturdays from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.
