We are arranging a panel of scholars with knowledge of Brethren, Mennonite, and broader American history to speak about the experiences of these groups during the American Revolution. That pivotal moment in history was traumatic for everyone in and around the previously British American colonies in many different ways. In efforts to understand the personal impacts of these trying times, we will explore the experiences of these ethnically German, economically common, and religiously scrupulous people. As people with mixed personal sentiments and affinities and under terrible pressure from others demanding their allegiance, these groups attempted to navigate their way peacefully with their neighbors while holding fast to their higher allegiance to God.
