About this Event

The Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society’s premier fundraising event and happens in cities around the nation. Our local Relay is the Relay for Life of Mid-Peninsula you can Donate Today! This year’s Relay involves an old-time car show, as well as two classic rock bands, a raffle and dinner provided by Menlo Park Firefighter Association. At dusk we light luminaria in a beautiful ceremony, and then our closing ceremony will start at 9pm or a little later. The Dinner is for all the volunteers who make the event happen.

The Relay for Life in Menlo Park will benefit the American Cancer Society (ACS). This year the Relay is being held Saturday, September 28th at Burgess Park.

Our Association and district are continuing its support by hosting the dinner on Saturday night around 6 P.M. The plan is to get the event catered and all are welcome to stop by to eat around that time, while supplies last for all the volunteers who make this event happen. ENGINE 2 from Menlo Park Fire will also join the Car show with the theme Road to recovery. The event will be going on from 2-10 so if rigs, personnel, or district employees want to stop by to show support they can walk a few laps, donate, or stay for dinner. I know it would be much appreciated by the ACS organizers, and the local community.

This money is very gratefully received by the American Cancer Society to provide for a full spectrum of amazing benefits for all of us like cancer research and new & improved treatments and also to do things that directly benefit a cancer patient like emotional support, wigs, rides to treatment for patients and lodging near treatment for families.

The Relay is a big undertaking and a huge benefit to the ACS. If you would like to donate for this walk or just would like more information on it please see attached flyer and event link below. If you have any questions, please contact me and I can put you in contact with an event organizer. This year’s theme is Road to Recovery, which is an American Cancer Society program in which volunteers give rides to cancer patients. ACS will be having a car show to tie in with the theme, so it should be a fun time, and you can enter your car for free. (Attached Flyer)

The car show officially starts at 2pm with the Relay, and they’ll be parked in the lot on Alma closest to Burgess. It is free. We will walk right by/through it on our Relay. They’ll want to take their cars home before dark, so they’ll probably eat and run.

Dedicate a Luminaria ( https://secure.acsevents.org/site/SPageServer?pagename=relay_luminaria&PROXY_TYPE=21&PROXY_ID=108312&fr_id=108312&search=event )

Luminarias honor every life touched by cancer. You can dedicate them to a loved one lost, someone currently battling, or anyone who’s overcome it. When you attend a Relay event, you’ll see the Luminarias decorated with names and sometimes messages to the people they’re dedicated to.

After dark, Relay participants share an emotional moment when each Luminaria is lit in remembrance of a life touched by cancer. Together, we take a moment of silence to remember the loved ones they’re dedicated to. When you make a donation for a Luminaria it helps fund the American Cancer Society’s mission to help save lives.
