Registration Renewal and Reimagining CPD workshops

We are inviting social workers in England to small workshops to tell us about your experiences and views of:

• renewing your registration

• carrying out continuing professional development (CPD)

We are looking at how we can continuously improve and shape our approaches to registration renewal and CPD to give the right balance between:

• public protection

• public confidence in the profession

• efficiency

This is an opportunity to tell us about your experiences. We’re committed to:

• learning from social workers about what you consider does and doesn’t work well

• making sure our registration renewal and CPD requirements support the professionalism of social workers

• ensuring we are meeting our overarching objectives of protecting the public, maintaining public confidence in the profession, and upholding the professional standards for social work.

We want to build on what works well and identify where we may be able to make helpful changes that will keep our requirements proportionate, workable, and supportive of social work practice.

During the workshops we’ll:

• explain what we’re aiming to achieve by reviewing registration renewal, and CPD
• share what we’ve learnt so far
• ask you to join breakout groups where you can share your views about registration renewal and CPD with social work colleagues and Social Work England staff.

You won’t need to prepare but it would be helpful to have a think ahead of the workshop about your experience of annual registration renewal, and CPD.

The workshops will be held on Microsoft Teams. You will receive the link to join the event 2 hours before the workshop.

Spaces at these workshops are limited, but there will be more opportunities to give your views and shape our work as it progresses.

We’re also inviting people with an interest in social work to complete our short survey. This will help us better understand how the renewals process supports public protection, and the behaviours, attitudes and impact about CPD for this registered profession.

Your voice is really important to us in informing our thinking on the future direction of registration renewal and CPD.
