This will be a time of gathering, sharing, and discussing what this organic learning community can look like for ages 3-5. I've plugged all information below! Scroll all the way down to view our agenda. Please come with your questions and thoughts.

Reggio-inspired Outdoor Learning Co-op

About Lead Teacher:
Jaqueline has been an art instructor and nature based educator in Los Angeles in various capacities. Teaching extracurricular art for ages K-12th for 8 years altogether after getting her BA in Fine Arts and being a practicing artist, she discovered the Reggio approach along the way and fell in love. The Reggio approach works with the creative process to learning, deep critical thinking, observation, great respect for the child’s capacity for autonomy, learning as a community, and the use of creative materials and environments. After working in 3 Reggio inspired schools, 2 of which are part of the Westside Collective (Branches Atelier, and The New School West) being trained by Reggio schools in Italy, and taking Early Childhood Courses in the subject, Jaqueline became fully immersed in this approach.
Jaqueline has also had the opportunity work at NorthEast LA Forest School (an outdoor preschool), Biocitizen ( and outdoor naturalist/outdoor program for early and late elementary based in LA), LAUSD school garden programs, nationwide STAR afterschool program as a Fashion/Arts instructor, Pacific Palisades Summer Co-op Camp, LAUSD and Charter high school and elementary afterschool art programs, Non-Profit afterschool program for K-8th (facilitating a grant for a food growing program and teaching the manual arts of woodworking, sewing, etc), and Wang Lei Art Academy (focused on drawing and painting) in San Gabriel. Jaqueline also worked at a children's toy store (Huzzah! Toys in Venice and Playa Vista) and helped create a story hour for children and families.
Jaqueline is still a practicing artist that works with creating clothing that promotes local natural materials (huemane.co). She finds that her personal work in nature is very interconnected with introducing the next breed of citizens to a brighter future as well as learning from them!
Curriculum:
- The Reggio approach works by allowing certain provocations (stations with given materials for open ended play) in the space, and seeing how children respond. The dialogue, and discussions with the children during play or circle determine the nature of the investigations (group projects where we are exploring a particular question or theme. An example would be: how do butterflies fly?)
- Much of the Reggio approach is also the social-emotional learning where we are helping children think and feel while working through any conflict in play or learning. This learning is a process in helping the child discern themselves while also offering tools to negotiate, communicate, etc.
- This co-op operates from Judeo-Christian values where songs and ideology are based on the Bible as God as a creator!
Ages:
- 3-5 yrs
Schedule:
- 3x week: Mon, Wedn, Fri*
- 8:30am - 1pm
*days can be update based on the needs of the majority of families involved.

Ratio/Parental involvement:
- 1 lead facilitator/instructor to 5 children
- 1 parent volunteer (regularity of commitment will vary on number of families involved. Ideally would be every other week, once a week)
*Parent volunteers have less to do with financial costs but more so with seeing the parent as a collaborator and part of the community. The parent will provide input, resources and their gifts while seeing the community up close, learn from their child’s peers and also work with the lead teacher in implementing the culture of the community of autonomy, respect, and creativity!

Pilot:
- I’m proposing a late summer/fall pilot where this is an informal group paying into the leader teacher an independent contractor Should things start to formalize and feel more solid, I would assess at the end of the year on what tax classification to file under.
- Costs:
- Chat GBT: In Los Angeles, forest school preschools typically cost between $60 and $100 per day if you average their monthly tuition over the number of attendance days. Programs are usually part-time (4–6 hours/day)
- $80/day per child per day*
- 8:30am - 1pm (4 - 4.5 hrs)
- 1-3 times a week (number of days optional)
- *deductions on rate will be offered to families with multiple children, and parents who volunteer more regularly.

Info: We have a beautiful site under a large shady oak tree that is very accessible for drop-offs and pick-ups. You'll have the option to drive over and see it in person. Saturday parking may be a bit tricker, so we will also provide a video through email follow up!
