From plucking the bass harmonics on the seminal Blam Blam Blam track 'There is No Depression in New Zealand', Mahon's new songs are in keeping with the anarchistic revolutionary themes he has long espoused.
The Kerfuffle live band is a four-piece combining Tim Mahon (bass, guitar, vocals) and Teina Benioni (guitar) from the album recording, plus additional talent Roger Stanners (guitar) and Alastair Mace (drums).
People are loving the new album...
"Tim Mahon has made the album he wanted to make, full of sharp asides, assertive politics and strident music...The album you never expected but one which is welcome because it makes you think as it draws you to your feet." – Graham Reid, Elsewhere
"It’s following the breadcrumbs like these [in 'The Ballad of William'] that can make an album like this both interesting and thought provoking..." – Ian Duggan, HUP (Hamilton Underground Press)
"Crammed full of ripping and gloriously scrappy post-punk tunes recorded with members of Ardijah, Newmatics and O.M.C, songs on Mahon's new album The Great Kerfuffle could easily be confused with raw-edged classics right out of It's Bigger Than Both of Us — an accomplishment indeed to this listener's ears — sounding Pere Ubu-adjacent on 'Quite Nice', lead single 'Vote', and dance-punk bop 'I'm OK'." – Chris Cudby, Under the Radar
