PLEASE NOTE
St. Mark's has raised our rent a bit and realized that they haven't been charging us for using their very nice piano, so our expenses are jumping up quite a bit - basically a 50% increase. [We're still not paying any staff.] I'd like to keep the door price low if we can; as an experiment I'd like to keep the official admission price $10 (or what you can) but people who'd like to support the dance and can afford it to to give us $20; do that for a few months and then evaluate.
We're planning a day of dance: two workshops and a ball with dance historian Susan de Guardiola, visiting from New Haven, at St. Mark's in Palo Alto on February 8, 2025. Mark your calendars. (She will also lead English-dance-adjacent material at the Palo Alto first Friday English dance on the 7th and the San Jose second Sunday English dance on the 9th.) Thanks to BACDS for the travel grant which brings Susan to us. Registration is not yet open but we expect to get a Paypal link up on the website before the January dance party.
We're in the process of scheduling a spring ball in Alameda in April or May; dates not yet firm.
The regular caller is Alan Winston, the regular band is Divertimento under the direction of James Langdell. (That's usually Paul Kostka, William Allen, sometimes Bill and Jeanette Langdell.) At balls it's the Divertimento Dance Orchestra.

We no longer require up-to-date vaccination (or any vaccination) and you don't have to fill and sign an attestation. (You still should stay away if you feel sick, if you've tested positive within the last 10 days, if anyone at home feels sick or has tested positive within the last 10 days.)
Dancers are strongly encouraged to wear masks in the hall; we recommend N95 or better. Callers and musicians may remain unmasked while working.
Our charming venue is on the ground floor, has doors and windows that open, and there's pleasant outdoor seating for optionally-masked breaks.
We do not have a beginner lesson. We welcome newcomers by taking care to establish basic concepts in the earlier dances and building on them later in the evening. It's a very good idea to come on time.
(To locate the social hall, find the driveway with the St. Mark's sign at ground-level on the south side of Colorado, take that past the buildings on your right into the large parking lot. As you enter that, the social hall is on the right, with the entrance a couple of dozen feet from the curb, past an outdoor seating area.)
Hope to see you there!
