Reel Life Matinee: "Wuthering Heights"

Eminly Brontë's gothic masterpeice gets the Emerald Fennell treatment, and the fog budget was enormous.

Starring Australia's own Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordie as Cathy and Healthcliff in the gloriously unhinged adaptation, which takes one look at restraint, laughs hollowly into the middle distance and gallops full tilt across the Yorkshire Moors. The costumes are sumptuous, the emotions operatic and, historical accuracy non-exisitant.

Critics are divivded - and Fennell cheerfully admits this isn't really Wuthering Heights so much as her fever-dream version of it, hence the quotation marks around the title. Whether that intellectually honest or extremely cheeky, depending on one's disposition.

Come for the brooding and the rage bait. Stay for the chaos. And make up your own mind.
