About this Event
Dr. Ariel Helfer, associate professor at Wayne State University, is JMC's inaugural M. Richard Zinman Scholar in Residence. The Scholar in Residence program honors JMC Professor Emeritus M. Richard Zinman’s transformative approach to undergraduate education and his commitment to studying the greatest texts produced by the greatest minds.
Helfer's research focuses on the history of political philosophy with emphasis on ancient Greek philosophy. His Zinman residency and lecture series will explore the writings and legacy of the lesser-known classical philosopher Isocrates and his relationship to Socratic philosophy, revealing an influential tradition that shaped Western thought from ancient Greece through the Renaissance.
Alumni, friends, and supporters of James Madison College are encouraged to attend on February 18th and meet with Profs. Zinman and Helfer after the lecture.
