About this Event
Join local book artist Joanna Liang at Crows and Crows Books, for the opening night of Reading Through The Window!
The "Window" refers to Joanna's unique way of designing her images and text around the windows she cuts out from her pages allows her to take advantage of a book’s sequentiality to form recontextualizing repetitions with a single page turn. She will be doing readings of her window books at the opening event on April 24th, along with an artist Q&A and an exclusive look into the process behind her newest work-in-progress artist’s book, “In another world / an orchid blooms”!
Bookending the event will be zine-making about oreos, inspired by one of Joanna's one-page zines where she rates different weird oreo flavours. Come have a taste and create a zine expressing your love-- or distaste-- of some weird oreo flavours!
Joanna Liang's artist's books explore the intersections between climate grief, toxic productivity, and what gardening can teach us about sustaining love and care. By revealing the terrible, ridiculous, and beautiful within the routine of our everyday, her practice aims to smash our bottles of grief open, sharp, and jagged to ferry us towards a simply complicated joy.
