What history can we “read” in the landscapes around us? This presentation will focus on some common New England rural landscape features and how to decipher cultural information from them about our past. Participants should expect to practice some hands-on interpretation outside as part of this presentation.
Dr. Rob Sanford, a resident of Gorham, Maine, is Professor Emeritus of Environmental Science & Policy at the University of Southern Maine. He is a Registered Professional Archaeologist. His books include Reading Rural Landscapes, River Voices: Perspectives on the Presumpscot, Environmental Site Plan & Development Review, and Cultural Resources Archaeology.
