About this Event
From a single word to a whole text, what can we ‘infer’, ‘imply’ or ‘connote’ about the meaning behind a single word, or even a whole text? We know we shouldn’t just state the obvious, but how do you go beyond that step, when the whole point of inference, is that there isn’t a single ‘right’ answer?
We’ll explore the big ideas, contexts, and themes that bring your set texts to life, right down to a zoomed in analysis of a single word or piece of punctuation.
Along the way, you’ll see how literature connects to other subjects such as history or religious studies, giving you the knowledge and confidence to tackle both English exams and other GCSEs that require you to use inference in your responses.
Suitable for young people, aged 14-16, studying for their GCSE exams at school or at home.
Do you have any needs you think we should know about, and are there ways we can make the session more inclusive for you? Examples might be enlarging the text on handouts/ printing it on a different colour paper; providing movement breaks; a visual timetable of activities. This is your session in your library, so we want to make sure it works for you. Email [email protected] to let us know.
