reaching for… open ending… a walking workshop with Benjamin Jenner

Benjamin Jenner is an artist researcher with early on set Glaucoma. Over the last five years they have developed a collaborative practice that explores the influence of the ‘non visual’ imagination and embodied knowledge on our experience of the environment. Recently, Benjmain has begun to explore how this know-how might be employed to effect positive change in neurodiverse experience. To do this they have teamed up with a number of people who identify as neurodivergent from the East Kent area.
For the Margate Festival of Design, Benjamin and their collaborators will share the preliminary stages of their enquiry via way of a walking workshop. The workshop will invite attendees to enter into the sense-making processes of non-visual and neurodiverse experience.

The walk will begin and end at The Margate School and will last between 60 and 90 minutes. The route will not be preplanned but rather led by the outcome of the sense-making activities undertaken on the day. Some of these activities will be art works created by the group whilst others will take the form of propositions to be engaged by the workshop guests. Ahead of the walk Benjamin will give a short introduction to the project. After the walk their will be a debrief and opportunity to ask questions.
