About this Event

This event will be hosted by the RE Steering Leads

This conference builds on previous work to establish a coherent and consistent approach to implementing the DSAT RE curriculum. Through a focus on mastery lesson design, task design, effective assessment, and diversity within Christianity, participants will explore how pupils can develop deeper and more connected understanding over time. The conference will also provide an opportunity to reflect on the implementation of the Creation unit and identify priorities for further curriculum refinement. The day will support RE leaders and teachers in strengthening classroom practice, evaluating curriculum impact more effectively, and ensuring all pupils develop increasingly secure knowledge of religion and worldviews.

Desired Outcomes:

By the end of the conference, RE leaders will:

  1. Strengthen implementation of the DSAT RE curriculum by revisiting and refining the key pedagogical principles that underpin high-quality RE teaching.
  1. Develop expertise in mastery lesson design, understanding how to make disciplinary and substantive concepts visible within lessons and over time so that pupils build increasingly deep and connected conceptual knowledge.
  1. Gain confidence and understanding of effective task design by examining simple, scalable examples of age-appropriate activities that enable pupils to think, speak, write and reason with increasing sophistication across the primary phase.
  1. Reflect critically on the implementation of the curriculum so far by identifying successes, challenges and priorities for future refinement of units taught so far (Creation), and determining how hub collaboration can further improve the quality and usability of curriculum materials.
  1. Deepen understanding of diversity within Christianity, equipping teachers to present Christian belief and practice accurately, and enabling pupils to recognise both commonality and difference.
  1. Strengthen approaches to assessing children’s understanding, using carefully crafted questions and discussion prompts to evaluate pupils’ conceptual understanding, identify misconceptions and inform future curriculum planning.
